INFINITE SUPPLY
Today's Message from Chip Brogden
"…they
complained against the landowner, saying, 'These last men have worked
only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden
and the heat of the day'" (Mt. 20:11,12).
To the workers in the
parable, God was cheating them out of something. But from God’s
perspective, He was simply doing what He always does – showing grace and
mercy to all. I am reminded of the Scripture that says, “He has not
dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our
iniquities” (Psalm 103:10). Thank God for His unfairness in not giving
me what I deserved! And how unfair that the Sinless One should have to
bear the sins of the whole world! This tremendous unfairness to the One
resulted in tremendous blessings to the All.
These workers had a
Win/Lose mentality. In order for God to bless us (they thought), He has
to punish others, or He at least has to not bless them as much, or has
to bless us more. This attitude assumes that there is only so much of
the Blessing Pie to go around, and we have to each fight to get the
biggest piece.
The truth is that God is big enough and generous
enough to show mercy to all, and especially to those who don’t deserve
it. Because really, none of us “deserve” anything. Every breath we take,
every minute we live, is a gift of God. Let’s cherish it and make the
best possible use of it. Let’s focus on what we have, not what we don’t
have. Let’s concentrate on what we can give instead of what we can take.
Because we have taken so much already, haven’t we?
