General Information:

God is a title, not a proper name.

Exodus 20:3
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

In Hebrew the word for God is “Elohiym”.  Elohiym is plural: used in the ordinary sense it would be interpreted as “gods”. (strong’s Heb #430).

An Acceptable Translation:

The New World Translation published by Watchtower is not a respected or approved translation. It was developed, edited and provided to Jehovah Witness congregations after being changed to accommodate their doctrine.  Do not accept this as legitimate biblical doctrine. None of the major denominations accept it but most accept the KJ, NKJ, RSV, AS, NAS, NIV, and others.

Sometimes a “Jehovah Witness” disciple will agree to use a King James Version when a non-member refuses to accept the use of a “New World” translation.  No prudent Christian should ever accept this version for true biblical discussion; use the “King James” when necessary.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Does Hell exist? Ans. Yes. Is it a place of torment? Ans. Yes, but only for sinners and some angels; it is a temporary place called “Geenna” in the Greek language.  Strong’s #1067.

Luke 16:19-24
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

The name for the entire place of the dead is called “Hades” in the Greek Strong’s #86 it too is called “hell” in the English bible.  Geenna is but one of the three chambers of Hades.  Abraham’s Bosom is another, which will empty at the coming of Christ and the third chamber is called “tartaroo” also called “hell” in the English bible, it acts as a holding place for a number of rebellious angels.

2 Peter 2:4
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

These last two chambers will be emptied at the second resurrection when their occupants will be judged.

Revelation 20:11-15
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Hades, the name given it in Greek is the same as “sheoul” (strongs #7585) the name given the place of the dead (grave) in Hebrew.

Since his crucifixion, has Jesus become a spirit that is invisible and untouchable?  Ans. No.  He is both physical having a visible form, and touchable.  He is also a spirit able to defy natural law.

Luke 24:38-43
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

Luke 24:31
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

John 20:19
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Acts 1:3, 4
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Is the Holy Spirit a separate spiritual being apart from the Father or Jesus? Ans: Yes.

22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

He works with and apart from the Father and the Son.

John 14:16, 17

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Some of the false doctrines held by the Jehovah Witnesses are:

1.  God is a solitary being i.e. no trinity.
2.  Jesus was resurrected as a spirit only.
3.  Jesus was created
4.  God the Father created all things.
5.  Hell is not a place of torment
6.  The Holy Spirit does not exist as a separate being.
7.  No one will be able to see Jesus when He returns. (see Revelation 1:7)

Who is Jehovah?

Definition:

Strong’s Hebrew dictionary defines Yehovah i.e. Jehovah, #3068 as, “The Lord”.

Isaiah 12:2
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

The prophet King, David said, “His name is Yah”

Psalms 68:4
4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.

He is, “The God of Israel.”  Yes!

Psalms 68:8
8 The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

As the God of Israel, he was seen and was visited by seventy five people.

Exodus 24:9, 10
9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:
10 And they SAW the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

If God the Father can’t be seen and no man has seen him at anytime, then who is the God of Israel whose name is “Yah” that was seen on the mountain?

John 1:18
18 No man hath SEEN God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

John 6:46
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath SEEN the Father.

1 John 4:12
12 No man hath SEEN God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

We should also find out who the Holy One of Israel is?

Isaiah 40:25-31
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

“The Creator”.  Is he the creator of all things?  Isn’t the creator of all things Jesus?

Colossians 1:15-18
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Hebrews 1:2
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Isn’t the “Holy One of Israel” our “Redeemer”?

Isaiah 41:14
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 45:11, 12
11 Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his (Israel’s) Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Who is “Almighty God”? Didn’t he appear (be seen) to Abram as “Almighty God” and didn’t Abram wash his feet and feed him cakes and calf?

Genesis 17:1
17 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord APPEARED to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Genesis 18:1-8
1 And the Lord APPEARED unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

How could “The Holy One of Israel”, “the God of Israel” or “Almighty God” be God the Father, if each of these spoke to the prophets? No one has seen the shape of God the invisible Father or even heard his voice until the time of Jesus’ ministry on earth?

John 5:37
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor SEEN his shape.

Matthew 17:3-5
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Finally:

If God appeared to anyone it means he was seen.  We know that God the Father was never seen, Jesus said so (John 1:18).

John 6:46
46 Not that any man hath SEEN the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

1 John 4:12
12 No man hath SEEN God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

John 1:1
18 No man hath SEEN God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

We also know he’s invisible and that he’s a Spirit,

Colossians 1:15
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

John 4:24
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

If Jehovah is God the Father than he would have never been seen.  If God has been seen then it's not the Father but is instead, the only member of the Godhead (trinity) that can be seen and that could only be Jesus the Christ.

The “Lord,” the “God of Israel,” was seen

Exodus 24:10-12
10 And they SAW the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.
11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they SAW God, and did eat and drink.
12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

The “God of Israel,” “Lord of hosts,” was seen

Isaiah 48:2
2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The Lord of hosts is his name.

The “Redeemer,” the “Holy One of Israel,” was seen

Isaiah 41:14
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 48:17
17 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

The “Redeemer,” “Lord of hosts,” was seen

Jeramiah 50:34
34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

The “King of glory,” “Lord of hosts,” was seen

Psalms 24:10
10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

“Almighty God,” “Jehovah” (Yahovah), was seen

Exodus 6:1-3
1 Then the Lord said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord:
3 And I APPEARED unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

Note: Jehovah is not the only name for the Lord (Isaiah 48:2, Jeramiah 50:34).

Isaiah 12:2
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Luke 2:30, 31
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

Isaiah 44:6
6 Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Revelation 1:8
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

God the Lord is Creator:

Isaiah 42:5-8
5 Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
8 I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Colossians 1:12-19
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

The Holy One of Israel our Creator, Savior and Redeemer.

Isaiah 43:3
3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

Isaiah 43:11-14
11 I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.
13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
14 Thus saith the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.

All of this proves that Jesus, the Christ, is the visible:

CREATOR (Colossians 1:15-19)
SAVIOR (Titus 3:4, 1 Timothy 3:16)
REDEEMER (Isaiah 41:14, Romans 3:24)
ONLY BEGOTTEN SON (John 3:16)
KING OF GLORY (1 Corinthians 2:8, James 2:1)
GOD OF ISRAEL (1 Corinthians 10:4)
HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL (Hebrews 4:14)
LORD (Revelation 19:16)
LORD OF HOSTS (Matthew 26:53)
KING OF ISRAEL (Revelation 19:16)
FIRST AND THE LAST (Revelation 22:13)
ALMIGHTY GOD (Philippians 4:13)
JEHOVAH (Isaiah 12:2, 2 Timothy 2:10, 1 Timothy 2:3-5,
                   1 Thessalonians 5:9)
Do we truly understand who it was that was nailed to the cross?

If you’re a Jehovah Witness and are now confused about Jehovah God then maybe you should consider changing teachers and pick a better translation of the bible to study. Why not come and share study and fellowship with us?
