The stock markets are dropping amid worry of default on national debts. We read the headlines and we also receive letters (like the one below) and struggle with how to adequately respond to our friends.
Peace of God be to you, One of our brothers, an Uzbeck named Hasan Mullah, has been put into a psychiatric clinic for becoming a Christian. He was given shots of harmful substances, but Jesus made it so tthat they did not have their affects. Pray for him. Please pray for me as I am facing a lot of pressure from people that are of heavy influences. Also I undergo financial difficulties. Again I need to make IDs for the guys, or else the police are getting on us. Otherwise things are normal. Blessings be to you, Sergey
Unhappy with your government? You do not face government sanctioned persecution nor do you have to deal with street level corruption! Normally addicts or released prisoners are not harassed by the police but followers of Jesus are.
Worried about your financial future? What if your husband was killed for his faith in Jesus and you have no means to support yourself or your children? Or what if your husband divorced you because of your faith? That is the situation for many widows and orphans in a tribal area of Pakistan. Help us help friends there.
Worried about health care? What if there was nothing unless you paid up front? That is what friends in Kyrgyzstan are facing right now as they help victims of the violence there. Will you please help us help them?
How many versions of the Bible do you own? What of over 20 million people with no culturally suitable version in their language? We are praying for this project. Interested? Please contact us.
How many Christian books decorate your shelves? We are publishing "The Luke 10 Manual" in Russian and in Kyrgyze. The Tajik version is coming. We need your help to get these out to multiply the Jesus model of simple, obedience based discipleship through those nations!
Yes, many needs but in some sense that is not the point. We need to give! Jesus in Matthew 6:25- 34 commanded us not to worry and said that those who seek the Kingdom (the people of the King) first will have all things added to them. Paul in the Message version of I Timothy 6:17- 19 is also very direct,
"Tell those rich in this world's wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here to day and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could every manage- to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they'll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life."
