May has been an amazing journey through Africa!
If you have not seen these travel posts, you will find so many ways that you are helping transform lives in Africa with us!
- The Power of Storytelling and this post on the conference fills you in on how you are helping the Gospel to reach the 40% of Africa who do not read!
- You will also be inspired by an 11-year-old who touches 100 children in Africa.
As you read this, Brooks and I are in Malawi for the first time (1,200 miles south of Kenya) working with a new group of leaders we have never met before. Your prayers as God continues to open new doors are vital.
You help women ‘walk on water’ for God
Brooks took this report first hand as we met with different leaders in Kampala this month:Ann (not her real name) is a woman motivated by passion and limited time. She has HIV. She tells me she doesn’t have time to be confused or lazy or distracted. Whatever God reveals to her, she responds to with obedience immediately.
Recently she told me about a group of women who had been reached by some of her disciples. “Those people called me. They told me, ‘We want to show you some new disciples so you can speak to them.’ I went there and I saw them and I started to help them understand about baptism. I was thinking that Bahizi (country leader) would help me and I called him. But he refused and told me, ‘You have to do it yourself.’ He told me that it’s me that’s going to baptize. I was afraid, but I called those disciples again and asked them, ‘Are you ready for baptism?’ They told me, ‘Yes, we are ready.’ So we went to Tanganyika Lake, and I went in the water.”
“It was quiet when I stepped in the water and I went in a bit far. The water was okay but I was feeling so afraid all by myself. I’m telling you I was soooooo afraid. But, then I had a vision of when Jesus called Peter to walk on the water…I was thinking about that, and I decided to not look at the water. Peter focused on Jesus so I focused Jesus and on the disciples.
The first one came…I asked the question, ‘No one pushed you to be baptized? Do you believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and only he can save you?’ And then, I baptized them. And I thought of something….I forgot the part to hold their nose!
Still, I couldn’t believe it was me who did it. This is what I needed in my heart. Since that time, I am telling other women about Matthew 28. We are disciples and to obey it is very ok for us to go and make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey all the commands of Jesus.”
Thank you so much for praying and traveling with us!
Much Love,
Roger and Brooks
