he took off his religious collar

Hi Dave and church,
You really do take part in changing the lives of people in regions and even nations. The article below explains exactly how this happens as a church leader becomes a movement leader.
We leave for Africa today. You can join us in prayer for:
  • All-leader training from five different nations
  • Three different trainings of new leaders from remote areas (South Sudan, Northern Kenya, Malawi)
  • Health, safety, and the leading of the Holy Spirit
You can journey with us by signing up to receive our up-to-the-minute travel posts here! Thank you for your partnership!

YOUR support in finding new, national workers is KEY

One, new apostolic worker can change a region and even a nation as God uses his influence to catalyze movements among the neediest. Here is a story of how one new such worker is ‘discovered.’
Step 1: Steven, our team leader in DR Congo, feels called to take a team to an undisclosed country in Africa.
Step 2: Divine appointment with Bishop Perym and his wife Shalom (names changed — please do not forward this email). They invite Steven to come share with their churches’ leaders.
Bishop PerymBackground on Perym: He grew up in an area that is 95% Muslim. Perym came to Jesus through friends and later joined a large denominational church where he was finally elected to a Bishop position. He has been leading a church and helping to oversee 400 other churches.
Background on his wife, Shalom: Shalom was an alcoholic and drug addict and very hopeless about life. She was raped, and as a result of that, her first son was born. After two failed marriages, she gave her life to Jesus but made the decision to never marry again. However, after Bishop Perym’s first wife died, she married him and they have been together for two happy years.
Step 3: Vision shared. Steven shares with Perym and Shalom about the impact that is possible through Disciple Making Movements and Simple Churches. “We started looking together at the meaning of ‘disciple’ versus ‘member.’ From there we shared the vision of how the church can move and operate like the book of Acts.”
Step 4: New apostolic worker responds (Perym pictured on the left with Steven in the middle):
bishop and AlembePerym said, “I have heard the Lord speak to me while you are sharing. I don’t know why I am doing this type of church work I have been doing where I don’t have peace and I don’t have joy. In fact, when I was Muslim, I did not see any church come to share Christ with me. Instead, my life changed because of lay believers in the neighborhood who just reached out to me. Therefore, I am going to resign from this church and begin afresh with disciple making movements.”
Steven said, “I have never seen a Bishop just remove his collar and declare on the spot that he wanted to join us as a missionary to reach his people.”

This is the kind of focused, humble leader that God is likely raising up to be a world-changer in his region! And this entire process depends on the faithfulness of you and the entire Appleseed team.
Thank you for your prayer and partnership!
With Love,
Roger and Brooks
