a sanitary pad makes all the difference

Hi Dave and church,
You helped us meet our goal to take one washable sanitary pad kit to each female teacher and student at Liberty School in Bikeke, Kenya. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY kits are all packed into three extra suitcases as we leave for Africa this week.
Your prayers are also deeply appreciated as we will have leaders from five different countries coming to Nairobi for a joint training. Please pray for travels, safety, logistics, and God's leading!
You can follow our travels here and sign up to receive these special travel updates here (if you are not already signed up).

Why pads matter

“What is the absolute biggest need in all of Liberty School,” I asked teacher Marie. She matter of factly and without hesitation, answered, “Sanitary pads for the girls.” Why I hadn’t thought of this before, I don’t know. It is commonly known that many girls in Africa must either quit school altogether or be out for a week each month when their period comes. It is a source of great embarrassment and frustration for them because there is no hope of ever having money enough to spend on something so “frivolous” and expensive as disposable pads. Sadly, girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find…but still miss up to two months of school every year. Shockingly, this one issue is one of the keys to social change for girls. Why? Because when girls can stay in school it helps to stop the cycle of poverty!

Washable pads are sewn and assembled

pad kitOver 30 women have been involved in learning how to make washable, flannel pads—a giant undertaking. Today, after hours of cutting, sewing, and assembling, we have packed three huge suitcases with 150 kits for women and girl sewinggirls in remote western Kenya. Each kit contains 2 moisture barrier shields, 8 flannel absorbent pads, 1 washcloth, 1 bar of soap, 1 plastic bag and 1 pair of panties in a drawstring bag. Thank you to everyone for your support in prayer and deeds. Our youngest contributor is 11 and our oldest is 83!
Thank you for all you do to partner with us!
With love,
Roger and Brooks
