You have been amazing friends as we have traveled during the past two months.
Also, thank you for praying with us for the nation of Burundi that has been immersed in political riots for the past two months. See the article below about one of our church planters who was nearly killed by a grenade blast.
If you haven't seen them, there are some excellent travel posts by Brooks on the following:
- Our impactful conference with key leaders in Nairobi: "It's been nothing short of miraculous…"
- Liberty School update: "Each time we go there, we are shocked and amazed at what God is doing…"
- Pads for Girls: "This is a miracle for them! Just look at these smiles!!!"
- Update from China: "Our hearts are full as we reflect on the past 12 years and how God has connected all of us with specific people in specific regions all over the world…"
Saved from a grenade blast
Thank you for praying with us for the nation of Burundi which has been immersed in political rioting for the past two months. Over 100,000 people have fled the country and are now suffering as refugees. One of the church planters had her life miraculously spared:
Elaine was selling tomatoes in Bujumbura town with other women. She needed to visit the toilet so she asked a friend working beside her to watch her tomatoes for a moment. Just as she moved away from her stall, she heard the blast of the grenade. As she turned, she saw the very place where she was sitting explode!
Sadly, two of her friends died in that explosion and many others suffered injuries.
We do thank God for protecting this fruitful church planter and her child. But we continue to pray for God’s grace among these faithful people in the midst of violent times!
Against all odds your rescued children persevere
What began in a dirt floored, tin roof shed, held up by poles, one room structure with broken carved out log benches, 35 sickly students and unpaid teachers is now a thriving community of 25 teachers and staff and over 300 students.David: He has no parents; he has no relatives. He has been passed from home to home of neighbors – moving over TEN times. When he is kicked out or runs away because of abuse, he still persists in coming to school every day. He won’t give up. Today he is one of the many students who is offered the gift of a better life. For a teenager with pressure from peers to drop out, make and drink alcohol, become lazy and go into a life on the streets, this is a miracle that you are taking part in!
We are always inspired by students who against ALL odds continue to persevere for more than their circumstances would ever allow.
With love,
Roger & Brooks
