Often, we are so busy DOING the work of the ministry, that we don’t have the time and energy to EQUIP others to do the ministry.
Equipping
To prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up . . . ~ Ephesians 4:12READING: Ephesians 4:1-16
To prepare God’s people for works of service: that is the job of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher. We are to equip Christians to more effectively serve the Lord in their gifts. Usually, people need "mending" as well as "training" in order to serve at their best. As a Christian leader, often you will be asked to take a broken person and help him or her become a well-trained worker in God’s Kingdom. That kind of preparation builds up the church and helps us all become mature in Christ.
Still, it is easy in the high pressure environment of planting a new church to forget that primary job. There are so many other responsibilities – preaching, problem solving, and pastoring, among many others. Meeting the needs and expectations of people within the church can eat up our time and energy so that we don’t have enough left to equip them.
Often, we are so busy DOING the work of the ministry, that we don’t have the time and energy to EQUIP others to do the ministry. And, as a result, the Enemy wins. Why? Because, if we did our job of equipping Christians for ministry, our team would accomplish a hundred times more than we could do alone.
Let me urge you to be an EQUIPPER! You can prepare God’s people for works of service! Make it a high priority! Stay committed! Do not be distracted! With all the other good things that press for your attention, stay focused on your most strategic priority: Be an Equipper!
You will know God’s pleasure as you stay focused on his work. Your people will thank you for it.
Dear Father, Help me to faithfully equip the precious people entrusted to my care. Amen.
