Transcending the Old Man
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the
fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any
means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have
already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may
lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”
PHILIPPIANS 3:10-12
Many years after having first put on the Lord Jesus, Paul declares that
he is still trying to apprehend the One Who has already apprehended him.
The height, width, breadth, length, and depth of this New Man, this
Heavenly Man, is quite beyond what we can measure apart from
Spirit-revelation. We are more familiar with and have more confidence in
the old man than we do in the New Man. By the grace of God, this has to
change. When we truly see the New Man we transcend the old man. And
this, in a nutshell, is how God accomplishes the work of decreasing us
and increasing Christ.
